The Australian Open has come to a spectacular end after 15 days of intense action. It was a momentous occasion, as the men’s singles final drew the curtains on the event. Melbourne Park saw a new winner in Jannik Sinner, who won his first Grand Slam title. While the spectators at the Rod Laver Arena embraced Sinner, they were especially hostile to the Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese.
Jannik took on Daniil Medvedev in the highly anticipated final. The match delivered on all fronts, as Sinner snatched a win despite staring into the jaws of defeat. He mounted an incredible comeback, despite being two sets down, and defeated Medvedev 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.
As former tennis star Todd Woodbridge congratulated the players, the spectators brought the roof down with their cheers. However, when he welcomed the Prime Minister, the reaction could not have been more different. The 15,000-strong crowd gave him a rancorous welcome as boos and jeers rang out.

Before the elections, Mr. Albanese had pledged that he would not undo the legislative cuts introduced by his predecessor. On Wednesday, the Labor MPs supported a decision that would half the benefits of those earning over $180,000. The government came to this decision to boost low-income earners.
Moreover, Mr. Albanese’s stance on the Israel-Palestine war has also alienated his supporters. Many took to social media to rejoice at the reception the Prime Minister got in Melbourne. One user felt he deserved it, while another would have liked it more if he had been booed out before the match. Here are a few reactions.
Music to my ears, but it should have happened before the game started, and continued – forcing him to leave the stadium so the game could commence 💪

While the political scenario might be fiery, so was the brand of tennis that both Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev played. It was a memorable Australian Open final.
Jannik Sinner vs. Daniil Medvedev at the Australian Open final
The 22-year-old has been crowned the new champion of Melbourne. He was in sizzling form throughout the tournament as he outplayed the defending champion, Novak Djokovic, for a spot in the finals.
The match turned out to be a five-set thriller, with Medvedev dominating the opening two sets. He broke Sinner quite early and broke him again to claim the opener. Daniil has been in six Grand Slam finals, and the difference in mentality was obvious as he took the next set too.

While Jannik looked clueless against Daniil initially, his levelheadedness came through. They were evenly matched from the third set on, going toe-to-toe. He broke Medvedev and marked the start of his epic comeback against his Russian opponent.
Never, stop, fighting!

“I knew [Medvedev] had played so many hours on the court and the longer the match goes on, I knew that I might be the favorite and I think that today was very important,” Jannik said (via CNN).
Medvedev endured yet another heartbreaking loss, but Jannik Sinner will cherish his first Grand Slam title. After a decade, the Australian Open has a new champion.
