Stephen Curry vs Sabrina Ionescu: Who Has a Higher 3PT% in 2023-24?

Stephen Curry‘s name is synonymous with ‘3-point shots’. The veteran guard is touted as one of the best shooters in the history of the league. His counterpart in the WNBA, without a doubt, is the New York Liberty’s guard Sabrina Ionescu. Sabrina brought the spotlight to the NBA last year by making history in the 2023 WNBA 3-Point Contest. She set a new record across the NBA and the WNBA with 37 points, breaking Steph’s previous record of 31 points.

This incredible feat by Sabrina shot her to the highest pedestal, leaving fans and analysts thinking whether she is a better shooter than the Golden Boy. This begs the question, who has a higher 3-point percentage among the two sharpshooters this season?

Sabrina has a higher % than Steph in 2023

Out of 36 games played this season, Sabrina is a 44.8% 3-point shooter, while Steph has a 40.2 % in 39 games played. This puts Sabrina higher than Steph in 3p% in the 2023-24 season. Of course, this is a narrow perimeter to judge the skills of the two shooters because if we zoom out and consider their careers, Steph has better numbers than Sabrina.

To be fair, while Steph has had a long career of 15 seasons, Sabrina has been in the WNBA for just four seasons. From that perspective, Chef Curry’s career 3P% is 42.6% while the Triple-Double Queen has 37.7%. Sabrina had her most productive performance in the 2023 season, where she made 44.8% of her 3-point attempts. However, the debate on which of the two 3-point champions is better can be finally put to bed, as we have one of the most exciting events coming our way.

A Steph Curry vs Sabrina Ionescu contest

After setting a new record last year, Sabrina had challenged Steph Curry to a special 3-point contest. Well, we might finally be seeing this contest go down. According to NBA Insider Shams Charania, a three-point shootout between the two Bay Area legends could go down during the NBA All-Star Weekend.

This matchup was revealed on Thursday night following Steph’s remarks to a teammate before the Dub Nation vs Kings game where he said, “I think I gotta bring her out…we gotta settle this once and for all,” referring to Sabrina. Regardless of the results, this showdown will go down in history as it will be the first-ever competitive matchup between the WNBA and the NBA.
