Yesterday, the Golden State Warriors succumbed to yet another demoralizing loss, this time to division rivals, the Sacramento Kings. They have won just four of their last team games. This abysmal run of form has relegated the Warriors to the 12th spot in the Western Conference standings. Their loss to the Kings could prove to be particularly devastating because they lost the game by just one point, with the game ending by the scoreline of 134-133.
Despite Stephen Curry’s 33-point performance, an ex-Warrior came back to haunt his former team. Harrison Barnes, who played for the Warriors between 2012 to 2016, recorded 39 points and 4 rebounds. After the fiercely competitive game, Stephen Curry praised his former teammate’s incredible performance.
He said, “He had a hell of a night right from the jump. He knew he had 30 in the last game and picked up right where he left off, made big threes early on… He just made every play, made every big shot that he took. Kudos to him for doing what he did and he’s a pro, like trade rumors and chaos of the league, I don’t think bothers him.”
Apart from Harrison Barnes’ 39-point performance, De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis chipped in with valuable contributions of 29 points and 18 points, respectively. Meanwhile, for the Warriors, 21-year-old Jonathan Kuminga turned up, as he recorded 31 points in 30 minutes of playing time. The Warriors are teetering on the edge of jeopardizing their playoff hopes with a series of lackluster performances. However, could Steph & Co. complete a miraculous turnaround in the latter part of the season?

Before the start of the 2023-24 season, fans of the Warriors expected them to compete for the NBA title. However, things haven’t gone according to the script for the Warriors. With the season reaching its halfway stage, the Warriors currently languish near the bottom of the Western Conference standings, with a below .500 record.

The Warriors coaching staff and front office must promptly address glaring weaknesses within their roster if they still harbor ambitions of an NBA title. While the Warriors have one of the best offenses in the league, they have struggled because of their defense. The Warriors have a defensive rating of 118.7, which is the 7th worst in the league.
With the trade deadline fast approaching, the Warriors’ hierarchy must act decisively to improve the roster and equip Steph with adequate support for another assault on the NBA title.
