Bismack Biyombo played in 30 of the Grizzlies’ 40 games with year

THE Memphis Grizzlies have waived center Bismack Biyombo.

Biyombo had a major role with the Grizzlies this season, filling in on their frontcourt with many players missing.

Steven Adams, Brandon Clarke, and Ja Morant all faced extended time away from the team and Biyombo got plenty of minutes at center during that time.

He posted 5.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.1 blocks per game in 30 appearances for the Grizzlies.

He started in 27 games and averaged 23.9 minutes in those games.

Biyombo was drafted with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings.

However, on draft night he was involved in a three-team trade with the Charlotte Bobcats, Milwaukee Bucks, and Kings which sent him to Charlotte.

He spent the first four years of his career with Charlotte, being a part of the Bobcats and the Hornets after they were renamed.

He then moved to the Toronto Raptors in 2015 before hopping over to the Orlando Magic From 2016 to 2018.

Biyombo would then return to Charlotte for three more years from 2018 to 2021.

He spent the next two years with the Phoenix Suns before joining the Grizzlies this year.

In his career, Biyombo averaged 5.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, .7 assists, and 1.3 blocks per game on 19.7 minutes.

He has appeared in 829 games, starting 351 one of them.

By waiving Biyombo, the Grizzlies opened up room to sign two-way player Vince Williams Jr. to a three-year, $7.9 million contract.

Williams plays guard and forward and has averaged nearly identical numbers to Biyombo.

However, he is much cheaper than the $5 million the Grizzlies were paying Biyombo.
