The American youngster began playing basketball in high school. He attended Rufus King High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, before transferring to play his senior season for La Lumiere School in La Porte, Indiana.
JP joined Michigan University in 2017. He was part of Michigan’s basketball team that won the 2018 Big Ten Tournament. The team also advanced to the National Championship Game in the 2017-18 season. Poole entered the starting line in his sophomore year (second year) and averaged 12.8 points and 3.0 rebounds.

The Milwaukee-born star was selected 28th overall by the Golden State Warriors in the 2019 NBA Draft. He linked up with top NBA stars Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and D’Angelo Russell. Poole scored 13 points in his NBA debut for the Warriors on 29 October 2019. However, in December, he was sent to the Santa Cruz Warriors of the NBA G-League.
He returned to the Golden State Warriors lineup and scored 21 points in a 109-95 victory over the Orlando Magic. He later managed a career-high 38 points in a 125-122 win against the New Orleans Pelicans.
JD was crowned the Warriors’ beginning shooting guard spot for the 2021-22 season, beating Otto Porter Jr. and Lee. He was also included in the 2021 All-NBA G League Third Team and won the 2022 NBA Championship with Golden State.
