‘It’s the Worst Job’ – Jannik Sinner’s Coach Takes a Cheeky Swipe After Historic Australian Open Result

Jannik Sinner is living his dream, isn’t he? The Italian sensation is enjoying some of the best months of his tennis career. Late last year, he helped his country lift the Davis Cup title. Months later, the 22-year-old is into his first Grand Slam final. Earlier today, he knocked out the top seed and defending champion, Novak Djokovic, in a dominating display of tennis. Despite this historic feat, talking about payment, his legendary coach took a cheeky dig at him.

Sinner is one of the few players who has two coaches in his team. He is working with both Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi. Here’s what the former had to say about their partnership.

Legendary coach of Jannik Sinner shows his comical side

Both Cahill and Vagnozzi were present during Sinner’s clash against Djokovic. The two enjoyed Sinner’s dominance over the Serb in that clash and later proceeded to the post-match press conference. During their interview, Sinner popped up in the room while the two were answering the questions.

One of the interviewers asked them, “What’s it like coaching Jannik?” Subsequently, Sinner’s legendary coach, Cahill, had a hilarious take on it. He replied, “It’s the worst job. The pay is low and you lose at card games.”

While Cahill has joined the team recently, Vagnozzi has known Sinner since he was 14 years old. The latter has often spoken about Sinner’s winning mentality and how it makes him so different from his opponents.

Interestingly, Sinner’s winning mentality not only exists in tennis but also extends to card games. During one such card game, both Vagnozzi and Cahill lost 20 dollars each against Sinner. Despite Cahill’s hilarious admission to coaching Sinner, he once praised his winning mentality.

What did Cahill say about Sinner’s winning mentality?

Owing to his brilliant form, Jannik Sinner has attained his career-best ranking of 4. A lot of this has to do with his desire to win and close down the games on a positive note, as he did against Novak Djokovic today. This attitude of Sinner was once praised by his coach.

Cahill said, “He’s like everyone else! He loves speeding in cars, maybe a bit too much. He’s joking, and he doesn’t like losing, even in burraco.” And sure enough, Sinner didn’t lose today. Even though he lost the third set, he did not let the Serb make a comeback.

Jannik Sinner will hope to continue his strong form as he takes on Daniil Medvedev on Sunday. Can he win his maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open? Let us know your views in the comments below.
