Former WTA Pro Who Denied Serena Williams Ultimate Tennis Glory Proposes a Doubles Quest for Jannik Sinner

How many of you remember the former WTA pro who denied Serena Williams of a clean sweep at the Grand Slam in 2015? Roberta Vinci was recently spotted posing with the 22-year-old poster boy of Italian tennis, Jannik Sinner. And the 40-year-old former WTA pro has now proposed a question for the youngster.

Serena Williams’ defeat to the 43 ranked Italian has been described by the commentators as one of the biggest upsets in the history of the sport. Vinci defeated the defending champion by three sets to book her place in the finals of the US Open in 2015.

The Italian, who ended the hopes of Serena Williams of clinching her fourth major of the season

A 32-year-old Roberta Vinci had defeated Serena Williams 2-6,6-4,6-4 in a thrilling 2-hour-long encounter at the Flushing Meadows. She had never even won a set against Williams before that match. So facing the defeat to an unseeded Italian must have been a bolt from the blue to the tennis fans. Vinci was in the limelight during her first Grand Slam semi-final appearance. And now she’s again back to the headlines after posing with Sinner.

Recently, Roberta Vinci caught up with Jannik Sinner at the Italian Super Tennis Awards. Sinner won the MVP award for his astonishing feats this year. But the most widely talked about moment came when she posted a pic with Sinner captioning, “Mixed doubles in Australia?”

Fans quickly jumped into the scene and shared her posts on social media. Sinner has just had one of the best seasons of his career. Would you love to see the Italians together at mixed doubles in Melbourne Park?

After having a successful season in 2023, Sinner looks to carry forward the momentum to 2024
Fans have witnessed a remarkable display of resilience from the 22-year-old Italian throughout the season. His ability to hold the nerves at the crucial moments of the match has caught the eyes of several experts in the game. Jannik Sinner has won 4 titles this season, including a maiden triumph at the ATP Masters 1000 title in Canada. He reached the semis of Wimbledon and the finals of the season-ending championship. Sinner played a pivotal role in clinching the first Davis Cup for Italy after an almost 47-year-long wait. He became the first Italian to finish the year in the top 5.

But now, the season has ended, and it’s time to focus on what’s next. Jannik Sinner will start his 2024 campaign at the Kooyong Classic in Melbourne. The exhibition tournament is scheduled to take place from January 10 to January 12. However. the world number 4 won’t be participating in this year’s Adelaide Open, so this would be a good preparatory camp ahead of the Austarlian Open. Can Sinner create a historic moment in Australia next season?
