umors suggested that Roger Federer would play at the Laver Cup. His fans have been hoping for the same; especially after his retirement. However, the latest update will leave fans dejected as the Swiss athlete has no plans of returning.
In a recent practice session with Mirka, Federer looked really good. Although he enjoyed the session a lot, he ruled out his chances of returning soon. A fan account of the Swiss Maestro shared the information on their social media page, and they wrote, “He recently booked a tennis court for himself and his wife Mirka for the first time and enjoyed playing with her. Although his forehand worked excellently on Monday, he has ruled out returning to the court at the Laver Cup.”
Federer revealed this in his interview with ‘Süddeutsche Zeitung’. The contents of the interview were translated by ‘Tagesanzeiger’. He reportedly said, “I see myself as a team captain one day, but I would like to see someone in this position who belongs to the generation after Rod Laver. Someone in the 50 to 65 age group. These guys deserve it first, before it’s my turn.”
Interestingly, even though Federer currently doesn’t want to return to the court, he still wishes the best for the other two members of the Big 3. Talking about the King of Clay, Federer said to CGTN Sports Scene, “I hope Rafa can come back very strong next year.” Along with this, he added, “I hope Novak can keep on playing for as long as he wants because it’s just really good for the game to have these guys still in the game.”
Federer has not abandoned the idea of ever returning to court. However, there is no confirmation that fans will get to watch him play anytime soon. Although he is not coming back to play, he is seen attending tournaments. Most recently, the Swiss Maestro was seen in the Shanghai Masters, and he enjoyed the sights of the players competing for the big prize, but he has no plans to play.
Federer enjoys the sights at the Shanghai Masters
The Swiss star returned to Shanghai after a long absence. As he made his way around the venue, he met many players, including Hubert Hurkacz, who bageled him at Wimbledon. He roamed around the venue and was pleasantly surprised at the changes that had been made to improve the experience of the players. He also talked about the gyms being better than before.
Aside from the Shanghai Masters, the Swiss Maestro was also seen at Wimbledon, where he was even honored as he sat next to Kate Middleton. It is clear that Roger Federer misses tennis. We might see him play an exhibition match in the future, but the chances are very low.
