The 2003 US Open champion Andy Roddick has expressed his concern about Novak Djokovic. The American underlined how the phase of dominance that Serb has had in recent years and which also led it to win three Grand Slam tournaments last year could be coming to an end.
Roddick explained that a new generation of tennis players is emerging who are increasingly competitive and who have gained confidence in the possibility of even being able to beat him.
The North American former player, in his very popular podcast on the web, talked again about the Australian Open and Novak Djokovic’s defeat in the semifinals, who was beaten in four sets by Jannik Sinner.
Andy Roddick shares his fear: “I’m a little worried about Novak Djokovic”
For the former world number 1, this match could mark an important turning point and he said he was a little worried for the Serbian player. As happened with Jannik Sinner who defeated Djokovic three times in the last 4 matches and with Carlos Alcaraz who defeated him in the Wimbledon final.
“Novak Djokovic was a little low on energy in the latter stages of the Australian Open. But it’s okay. He was better than anyone on Planet Earth, it will happen again. And that’s why I’m a little worried about him. Also because he is in a situation in which the years pass. And there are players who can really hurt him.
Once they get comfortable with him and realize they know how to beat him and find a way to win it will be harder and harder for him. This new generation of players will not go back to the mentality that there is no way to beat him,” Roddick explained in the latest episode of his podcast.
