A ‘Zombie’ Angelina Jolie lookalike, who’s known for posting spooky Instagram pictures, has finally revealed her real face on Iranian TV after being released from prison. Contrary to popular belief, Sahar Tabar (pictured right) looks nothing like her ‘zombie’ alter ego. Many people believed she underwent cosmetic surgery to achieve her demonic appearance, but she revealed herself on Iranian TV channel Rokna.
Tabar, 21, whose real name is Fatemeh Khishvand, from Tehran, had originally been jailed for obscenity and insulting the hijab, according to the Iran Human Rights News Agency. She was arrested in October 2019 for ‘corruption’ and ‘blasphemy’ and sentenced to ten years in prison. But the media star was recently released after serving only 14 months, as reported by activist Masih Alinejad.
‘What you saw on Instagram was the computer effects I used to create the image,’ she was quoted as saying, according to Lad Bible. Announcing Tabar’s jail sentence back in 2020, the activist wrote online: ‘Sahar Tabar is only 19. Her joke landed her in jail.’
‘Her mother cries every day to get her innocent daughter freed. Dear Angelina Jolie! we need your voice here. Help us.’ It was also reported that Tabar had caught Covid-19 in 2020, with the US-based Center For Human Rights In Iran saying a judge in the country refused to grant her bail despite the fact that coronavirus was rife in the country’s prisons at the time.
Ms Alinejad called on Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie to petition for Tabar’s release in a video, adding ‘Islamic Republic has a history of tormenting women. We need to be united against this gender apartheid.’ This year, Iran has been rocked by widespread protests and strikes raging across the country for the sixth week in a row following the death of Mahsa Amini, who was killed in custody after being accused of breaching Iran’s strict dress code for women. Her death has fueled the biggest anti-government protests seen in the Islamic Republic for years.
In 2019, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting Channel 3 (IRIB TV3) said that Tabar (pictured) was facing between three months and two years in prison. The social media star shot to fame in 2017 after she reportedly had 50 surgeries to make her look like the Oscar-winning actress Ms Jolie. She later admitted she’d had some surgery such as a nose job, lip fillers and liposuction but insisted most of her unusual appearance is down to make-up and editing. In a pre-trial television interview, in which appeared as a ‘zombie,’ her face was mostly blurred out. She told the interviewer that she did not look like her Instagram pictures because they were heavily edited in Photoshop.
Tabar also said that it had been her childhood dream to become famous, and that she had persisted with her efforts to build her Instagram following despite her mother’s objections. Instagram is the only major social media service accessible in Iran unlike Facebook and Twitter, and the Telegram messenger service are officially banned.
