Angelina Jolie’s six kids choose their own clothing for events, rather than be dressed by Hollywood stylists.
Angelina Jolie’s famous punk style has evolved over the years thanks to her time growing up in the limelight, and her experience has influenced her children’s style, too. The fashion icon has spotted several stunning red carpet looks throughout her acting career and has passed on her excellent taste in clothing to her children: Maddox,22, Vivienne, 15, Shiloh, 17; Zahara,18; Pax,20; and Knox,15. As a mother, Jolie has given her children the same opportunity she had as a young adult to find themselves through their clothing.
Brad Pitt has a complicated relationship to some of his children, following his divorce from Angelina Jolie.
The Eternals actor does not encourage her kids to work with Hollywood stylists to put together their looks since, to Angelina Jolie, one’s clothing is tied heavily to one’s identity. Building an authentic love for expression through fashion is also part of why Jolie has ventured into the fashion industry with her brand, Atelier Jolie. This article looks at why Angelina Jolie prefers her kids to dress themselves, instead of getting dressed by Hollywood’s high-end designers and stylists.
Why Hollywood Stylists Don’t Usually Work With Angelina Jolie’s Kids
Via: InstarAngelina Jolie’s kids are not designed by Hollywood stylists, because the mother of six always encourages her children to explore their artistic side and wants them to embrace their own personal identities. She spoke of a fashion experiment she had with five of her kids where they wore her old red carpet dresses to the premiere of Marvel’s Eternals. Maddox, Vivienne, Knox, Shiloh and Zahara joined their mother at the premiere dressed in her remade designer gowns.
“That was just an experiment in, ‘Here’s some old clothes, here’s some vintage, here’s some things you can cut up – you can do it all these different ways,'” the movie star recalled telling her kids.
She asked them, “Who are you? What do you want?” Not “Who does the world expect you to be as Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s kids?” or “What current fashion trends might satisfy the image people have painted of you?”
At the UK premiere of Marvel’s Eternals, where the kids also made another red carpet appearance dressed in different stunning looks, Jolie expressed her pride in them for stepping out of their comfort zone. She told Entertainment Tonight, “I’m happy that they’re able to have some fun with it and not take it too seriously and start to explore themselves even with their fashion.”
As a mother, Angelina Jolie says she does not like it when someone else dresses her or her kids because it can reduce their chances of self-exploration.
“I don’t work regularly with a stylist. I don’t like the idea of somebody putting clothes on me or my kids. I don’t think they like the idea of being styled.”
“So much of clothing is identity and if someone else is styling you and dictating who you are and what you wear. Especially as a mother, I want to know who my children are.”
The Mr. & Mrs Smith star says she loves putting different items and clothing in front of her kids to allow them to question or break the box regarding what they like or don’t like, to see where it takes them.
How Angelina Jolie’s Kids Have Inspired Her Fashion Brand, Atelier Jolie
Via: InstarAngelina Jolie’s fashion line, Atelier Jolie, was launched in 2023 and the actress admits it surprised everyone around her. The star’s passion project focuses on quality and sustainability in fashion. In a 2023 interview with WSJ Magazine, she spoke about where she thinks her fashion line will go in the coming years. “I’ll probably lose money, maybe even for a while. If I can eventually put into practice some of the things that I think are some improvements and I break even, that is a huge victory.”
Even though the Angelina Jolie’s brand may not be profitable in its early years, Jolie is convinced it will bring about the change needed in the fashion industry. “Can we avoid doing real damage — not only to the earth but to the garment workers? Is it possible that I could go somewhere and enjoy making clothes, enjoy wearing clothes and not hurt anybody, and actually maybe treat people well?” Jolie attributes her new chapter to her children, who she says ‘saved her life’ after separating from her ex, Brad Pitt.
Angelina Jolie reportedly was upset with Brad Pitt for acting like a bachelor while they were married.
“They helped me. I’m not alone in managing everything. They are an amazing team, so I am very fortunate. I would have gone under in a much darker way had I not wanted to live for them. I don’t think I have been myself for a decade. We had a lot of healing to do.” Angelina Jolie’s daughter Zahara has been heavily involved in the fashion brand, even picking out its location at 57 Great Jones Street, Manhattan.
Jolie told Vogue, “I can be very impulsive, but Zahara is so grounded, decisive and thoughtful. When she agreed, I felt we were both decided.” As per the news outlet, Zahara and Pax have greatly contributed to Jolie’s brand design. Zahara advised her mother to add shade options for some of the brand’s dress designs to include a broader range of skin tones, while Paxx helped design the brand’s logo.
Angelina Jolie’s Children Are A Huge Part Of Her Life
Via InstarAngelina Jolie shared that she keeps a small circle of friends, which includes her children. “They are the closest people to me and my life, and they’re my close friends. We’re seven very different people, which is our strength.” Apart from her kids, Jolie’s only other close friends are refugees. “Four out of the six women I am close to come from war and conflict. There’s a reason people who have been through hardship are also much more honest and much more connected, and I am more relaxed with them.”
Sources close to Brad Pitt feel as though Jolie is using this ‘tactic’ to allegedly gain leverage in their ongoing battles.
Since most of Jolie’s time is spent with her kids, they have come to influence each other regarding dressing. “My daughter tells me I wear too many trench coats, and I know there are certain things they wouldn’t want me to wear. I think I stopped wearing certain things when I had teenagers.” The Tomb Raider actor shared in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that her family is pleased when they see her express herself through her style and clothing.
“I’ve realized as my children have gotten older when I put myself together nicely, or when I’m creative and doing something fun, they’re so happy seeing that their mother is being herself and having fun.”
