Years after the drama unfolded, Taylor Swift took a look back and explained what really happened when Kanye West released Famous. This time, she talked about Kim Kardashian’s role
Taylor addressed the 2016 feud between her, Kim Kardashian, and Kanye West
After being named Time’s Person of the Year, the pop star told all to the magazine. In 2016, Kanye West released a song called Famous. “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. Why? I made that b**ch famous,” the lyrics said. However, Taylor spoke out at that time of the song’s release, expressing discontent about his use of the lyrics.
Kanye claimed Taylor gave consent, so Kim Kardashian released a video of Kanye and Taylor on the phone, making it seem as though Taylor approved the lyrics. It was later revealed, when the full video was released, that it was edited to make it look like Taylor gave consent.

What ensued was a years long hate train against Taylor, including Kanye fans spamming her social media with a snake emoji. At the time, Taylor implicated Kanye, but in the latest Time article, she also brought Kim’s name into the equation. She said: “You have a fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar. That took me down psychologically to a place I’ve never been before.”
Kim has since claimed that Kanye “forced” her to defend him. She now periodically posts on social media with Taylor’s music playing in the background.
Nonetheless, the damage was done. Taylor told Time : “I moved to a foreign country. I didn’t leave a rental house for a year. I was afraid to get on phone calls. I pushed away most people in my life because I didn’t trust anyone anymore. I went down really, really hard.”

She believed that moment would define her career and effectively ‘kill’ it. Taylor then made a bold move. She used the snake imagery and her hurt to create a new album, Reputation, which was met with mixed reviews. “The molecular chemistry of that old label was that every creative choice I wanted to make was second-guessed,” she said. “I was really overthinking these albums.”
Taylor’s career moved on after Reputation and she put out multiple new records since them. Plus, she began rerecording her old albums in an effort to reclaim her ‘stolen’ masters. In the end, Taylor’s career flourished, leading her to earn the spot of Time’s 2023 Person of the Year.
