Khabib Nurmagomedov losing his cool during UFC face-off had Mike Tyson buzzing

Khabib Nurmagomedov secured a famous win in May 2013 in the UFC when he took on Abel Trujillo in the Octagon, getting the better of the American via a unanimous decision from the judges.

In combat sports, the fight is obviously the main event, however, the face-offs that go with the weigh-ins can often provide some moments of real entertainment and drama, with the build up to the fight between Khabib and Trujillo no different.

Khabib Nurmagomedov losing his cool during UFC face-off had Mike Tyson buzzing

Mike Tyson was on the stage watching on, with the former boxing heavyweight world champion the special guest of UFC President Dana White on the day.

It feels strange to think of a time when Khabib wasn’t the main event fight, but back in 2013 he was low on the undercard and tempers flared after he missed weight.

He was 2.5lbs above the limit, meaning the Russian had to give up 20% of his fight purse, with half of that finding its way into the pocket of Trujillo.

The Eagle was keen to cause chaos at the face-off, pushing his opponent as they were staring each other down. As you can imagine, Tyson absolutely loved the scuffle at UFC 160.

Below is the video of the encounter at the face-off where you can see the brilliant reaction of Tyson, you can see him in the white t-shirt at the top right hand side of the screen.

You can see just how much Tyson loved it in that video, his reaction is absolutely priceless and exactly what we’d expect from Iron Mike.

It was a huge story at the time, with White having his say on the scuffle: “The nicest guys in the world are the meanest, nastiest dudes you’ve ever seen on weigh-in day.

“That’s why I’m always right there. When he pushed him, I said, ‘Jesus Christ, I’m getting old. I can’t even stop a push now.’ … But that’s why we’re there.

Khabib Nurmagomedov paid tribute to his father Abdulmanap as he was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame

“That’s what happens. We’re there to make sure the fight doesn’t happen before the fight.

“We can handle a little pushing around here. These guys are miserable. They’re nasty. He didn’t make weight.”

Khabib certainly backed his actions up with his unanimous victory, setting a new record at the time by securing 21 takedowns on his way to triumph.

Tyson was clearly very impressed with what he saw as the pair became good friends after that famous weigh-in, with The Eagle appearing on Tyson’s podcast.
