The relationship between Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and pop music superstar Taylor Swift has taken center stage during the 2023 NFL season as two distinct worlds — pro football and popular music — have collided in an unforeseen way. The Kelce – Swift romance has dominated the season into the playoffs, where the Chiefs will visit the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday afternoon.

But it could be argued that Swift’s presence at Chiefs games has been distracting for a team focused on repeating as Super Bowl champions. One of Kelce’s teammates described the vibe in a recent podcast appearance — and whether any sparks have flown behind the scenes.

Tranquill spills the tea

During an appearance on “The Zach Gelb Show,” Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill said that Swift is not often discussed among the players in the locker room. But even in such a professional, championship-caliber atmosphere, there are still moments and opportunities to joke around with Kelce.

“It’ll be moments like at practice when … our DJ turns on a Taylor Swift song and everybody kind of jokes about it,” Tranquill said. “I think the wives and the girlfriends, I hear about it more when I go home than I do actually in the building.”

Tranquill remarked that Swift’s presence at games has actually been a big boost to the Chiefs, who have generally performed well with the “Lover” songwriter looking on. He said Swift brings “energy and a lot of fun” to games — such as the “Swag Surfin’” that took place during Kansas City’s wild-card round win over the Miami Dolphins.

“It’s been fun, man. That’s something to celebrate, something fun and we enjoy poking fun at Travis,” Tranquill said. “But seems like maybe they’re in love, man. They’ve got really, really something going and we enjoy having her at our games.”

Swift’s next stop: Baltimore?

It will come down to the wire as to whether Swift will touch down in Baltimore on Sunday and take her place in a suite at M&T Bank Stadium to watch the AFC title game play out. However, at this point, it woud be a surprise if the “Lavender Haze” songstress did not show up to support Kelce and the Chiefs.

Swift has attended 11 Chiefs games this year since her relationship with Kelce became public knowledge. Kansas City has won eight of those games — including last week’s divisional playoff game in Buffalo against the Bills. The Chiefs are slight underdogs against Lamar Jackson and the Ravens’ explosive offense, but the reigning champions will be confident of advancing to a second successive Super Bowl — especially if “good luck charm” Swift is in the building.

Taylor Swift ‘fits in seamlessly’ with Travis Kelce’s family after getting close to his parents and brother Jason at Chiefs games… and the couple are ‘genuinely happy together’ as they head towards the Super Bowl

Taylor Swift ‘fits in seamlessly’ with Travis Kelce‘s family, who ‘don’t see her as a superstar’ when they spend time with her, according to reports.

Swift has attended 12 of Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs games this season, and is now expected to make it 13 – her lucky number – at the Super Bowl in Las Vegas in less than a fortnight’s time.

The popstar has become close with Kelce’s parents – Ed and Donna – at the games and regularly sits with them in the suite.

Despite reports of an ‘awkward’ relationship with brother Jason Kelce and his wife Kylie, they seemed to be getting on well at both of the Chiefs’ last two playoff games.

And, according to an insider for People, the couple are ‘genuinely happy’ together and part of the reason is how Swift fits in with his family and loved ones.

They said: ‘It’s obvious, isn’t it? They’re genuinely happy together. She’s there to support him and cheer him on, and she’s fit in seamlessly with everyone he loves.’

The source added that his family ‘don’t see her as “Taylor Swift” the superstar’ when she’s around them because of her down to earth personality.

The Chiefs secured their spot in a fourth Super Bowl in five years on Sunday with a 17-10 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

Kelce was in incredible form once again, catching all 11 passes thrown his way – and he opened the scoring with a touchdown, too.

It means they will take on the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas on February 11 and the presence of Swift is expected to take the NFL’s showpiece game to even greater heights.

The insider continued: ‘It (Sunday) was the best night ever. The whole family was so, so excited and riding a high.

‘Their phones were blowing up all night with congrats. The energy on the field was just insane.

‘To be going to Vegas now is indescribable. Having his family there, all his best friends and managers, and of course, Taylor, celebrating with him was very special.’

Sunday was the first time cameras have caught the pair publicly declaring their love

Immediately after the Chiefs’ huge win in Baltimore, Swift came down to the field and the pair shared a very public and passionate kiss, with the world’s cameras upon them.

In that immediate embrace, it has been suggested that Taylor said ‘I love you’ to Travis without him verbally reciprocating the gesture.

But a new clip has now surfaced, with the NFL’s microphones following Kelce around the field, in which he does indeed say the L-word to his girlfriend.

Meeting her for a second time on the field, Travis approaches Taylor to say: ‘Tay, I’m going to enjoy with the guys’… before kissing her again and declaring: ‘I love you.’

The high-profile pair then share a tight hug, before Swift tries to create some privacy by whispering something into Kelce’s ear. As the pair break apart, she then says ‘EVER’.

It was the first time cameras have caught the pair publicly declaring their love for each other, with their relationship now four months old.
