Travis Kelce Explains Heart Celebration Was For Bills Mafia, Not Taylor Swift

Kansas City travels to Baltimore to take on the Ravens in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game

Travis Kelce’s two touchdowns in the Chiefs’ 27-24 Divisional win vs. Buffalo Sunday night helped Kansas City progress to the AFC Championship Game, but as always the focus extended beyond his supreme talents between the lines.

The celebration of Kelce’s first touchdown, and his brother’s ensuing joy, went viral for very different reasons. Jason took off his shirt before chugging a beer while Travis threw up a heart sign, which many interpreted to be a sign of his love for Taylor Swift, who was in attendance at Highmark Stadium.

The man himself suggested otherwise on Wednesday’s episode of New Heights podcast.

“Had to spread the love baby,” Kelce said of the reasoning for his celebration amid less than loving sentiment from the home crowd.

“Always got to spread that love baby. There was a lot of hate pulling up to that stadium, man. A lot of [I] understand… Coming into their house, they want to make it rowdy. Did it get a little disrespectful? 1,000% They got a little extra.

Kelce wouldn’t specify what was said, not wanting to give rise to derogatory comments but noted it was about his family, while some “pretty inappropriate things” were said about Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

“It was pretty wack,” he added. I get it. I get it. Coming into a hostile environment, I respect it. But I just wanted to make sure they knew it wasn’t mutual. I don’t hate you guys like you hate us. It’s all love baby.”

Earlier in the episode, Kelce praised the energy inside Highmark Stadium and expounded upon his love for playing in Western New York.

“Dude, I have to tip my hat to Bills Mafia,” he told his brother, Jason. “It’s such an awesome atmosphere playing up there. It was so much fun. They brought the energy. They got rowdy for every single play, every single third down that we had — and that made it fun.

“Obviously, I’m saying this differently if we come out with a L instead of a victory, but I can’t thank Bills Mafia for showing up and showing out like they did, and making that environment a memorable one for everybody involved and that was electric.”

Kelce and the Chiefs will step into another hostile environment Sunday when they take on the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game.
