With San Antonio now reaching the halfway point of the season, the initial assessment of Victor Wembanyama is satisfactory to say the least. Questioned by the First Team recently, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar also gave his honest opinion on the nugget.

Unfortunately for him, the Spurs will not have won many matches in this first half of the regular campaign (33 defeats in 40 matches, last in the Western Conference). But for his part, Victor Wembanyama was no less impressive on the court, especially since the Frenchman became a full-time center despite a big restriction on his playing time:

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s challenge for Victor Wembanyama

Relatively absent for his debut, the V reassured a lot of people doubting him because of his frail physique and his injury history. Which therefore allows him to express his talent as much as possible on the pitch, and it never goes unnoticed. Visiting Paris recently and interviewed by the First Team, the legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was also very positive towards the former Mets.

I don’t know if he plays like me, but if he can dominate the game like I was able to do, do a certain number of things offensively and defensively, that’s all that matters. It’s not the style that counts, but the result. (Popovich) is a good coach for him, and I think there are a lot of players on this team that he can learn things from during his rookie year.

Just like Wemby, KAJ left his mark on the league by being exceptionally strong technically for a big man. not necessarily the most physically powerful, the former top scorer in history had developed a range of offensive moves that had given his opponents nightmares, while being a racket totem. Doesn’t that remind you of anything? Taking inspiration from him wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is visibly satisfied with Victor Wembanyama’s first games in the NBA. We also hope the young Frenchman will follow in the footsteps of the former Laker, which would allow him to have an incredible career.
