Simons says his son hopes to be in a band one day, but he’s not sure if he has what it takes.

Simon Cowell was seen spending quality time with his 9-year-old son, Eric, in Malibu on Sunday, September 10. The father and son were photographed coming out of a grocery store, pushing a green cart filled with groceries.

Eric was dressed in a light-colored shirt and matching shorts. He held on to the cart with one hand while his other held a popsicle, as his famous dad pushed it towards their vehicle. Simon was dressed in his classic black t-shirt with white shorts and dark sunglasses.

Eric doesn’t only share his father’s looks, but apparently his knack for spotting talent. Simon recently said he has hopes that his son will one takeover for him as a judge on America’s Got Talent.

Simon Says He’s “Training” His Son To Be A Reality TV Judge

Speaking to Daily Mail last month, Simon admitted he sees a lot of himself in his young son. “Trust me, he is in training,” the television personality revealed. “He sits and watches the shows with me before they go out and I don’t ask him, but I look at his reaction because kids don’t lie.”

“If they are bored, they are bored and if they are interested in something, they are…” Simon continued. “And that’s really helped me actually. I hope he does what I do.”

However, Eric may not be happy sitting at the judge’s table, as Simon admitted his son has expressed an interest in being the one who auditions, potentially foreshadowing a career as an entertainer. “He has said the dreaded words, ‘Daddy, can I audition for you? And I’m like, “Oh, No!’” Simon went on.

“He wants to be in a band. He likes Green Day,” the former American Idol judge continued. “So, I’m like, ‘We’ll have this conversation later. He’s going to do what he wants to do.”

But fans shouldn’t expect to see Eric get special treatment, just because his father is one of the mot well-known names in the entertainment industry, and is responsible for helping establish big acts like One Direction and Kelly Clarkson.

Simon went on to reveal that Eric won’t automatically get an audition, just because of who his dad is. Rather, the television star says his son has to show talent and earn an audition if he wants to make it in the industry.

“If you are not good, you are not going on the show,” Simon explained. “And that means you’ve got to rehearse. Sorry, you have to take a lot of lessons, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.”

Simon said that may have discouraged his son from pursuing a music career, however, he remains excited to see where his son’s future takes him. “He is like, ‘Okay.’ And then I think he lost interest, but I think he just, I don’t know,” the music producer went on. “He’s just up for it for some reason. But if he’s terrible, no, you won’t see him on the show.”

While Eric may have his eyes set on the stars, for now, it looks like the 9-year old is going to remain behind-the-scenes learning from his famous dad.
