Red Bull Set to Unveil Track-Only Hypercar RB17 This Year

Red Bull Racing, renowned for its Formula 1 success, is venturing into the hypercar realm with the RB17, set to be unveiled this year. The RB17 is positioned as a track-only hypercar, breaking away from Red Bull’s traditional focus on F1 cars. Designed by F1 legend Adrian Newey, the hypercar is expected to deliver 1,233 horsepower (919 kW/1,250 PS) through a hybrid powertrain.

While many details remain undisclosed, Red Bull F1 Team Principal Christian Horner recently stated in an interview that more information about the RB17 will be revealed this year during its official launch. Reports suggest that the hypercar will feature a twin-turbo V8 engine, built by an undisclosed third party, coupled with an F1-style energy recovery system for torque fill.

Adrian Newey, targeting a curb weight of 1,984 lbs (900 kg), aims to make the RB17 an aerodynamic marvel, harnessing ground effects and showcasing his expertise. This curb weight target would make the hypercar lighter than the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro but slightly heavier than the Gordon Murray Automotive T.50s.\

The RB17 is expected to capitalize on Red Bull Racing’s mastery of ground effects, showcasing Newey’s aerodynamic innovation. Red Bull plans to produce 50 units of the RB17 at a rate of 15 per year, with deliveries scheduled to commence in 2025.

Priced at an estimated £5 million ($6.37 million USD), the RB17 will be exclusive to the track, prohibiting use on public roads.
