Was any movie ever made with 100% accuracy? Well, the answer is most likely negative. Marvel Studios has acquainted itself with several slip-ups and plot errors throughout its reign. Fans’ admiration for the franchise remains intact nevertheless. Recently, a viral post on Reddit has been making rounds on the internet, amassing much response from fans. Released in 2018, the film was one of the biggest MCU blockbusters. It grossed over a whopping $2 billion globally, smashing multiple records, per Box Office Mojo. Becoming the highest-grossing film in 2018 and fourth overall at that time, it is only natural that every nook and cranny of the film was reviewed by fans. The goof-up in RDJ’s look during his solo encounter with Thanos became the center of attention for MCU fans after half a decade of the film’s release.

MCU’s central and most iconic superhero, Iron Man portrayed by Robert Downey Jr., since the studio’s first-ever blockbuster in 2008, always sports a mustache and a goatee. The facial hair has become significant with the superhero’s look and fans can’t stand even a minor alteration. Therefore, the Reddit post noted the scene where Iron Man faces off Josh Brolin’s Thanos for the first time, and says,

“You throw another moon at me, and I’m gonna lose it.”

After the shot zoomed into RDJ’s face inside the Iron Mask, a wild change in his mustache and goatee left fans baffled. The eternally dark and cool-looking mustache was switched to a lighter one, giving senior-citizen vibes from Iron Man. It was difficult not to notice the change. Moreover, the mustache covered most of RDJ’s upper lip. Thus, a collation of the two mustached looks of RDJ was shared on Reddit which urged fans to flood the comments with hilarious insights.

Iron Man’s mustache blunder wasn’t the only mistake that couldn’t escape the sight of hawkeyed MCU fans. Spider-Man star Tom Holland also witnessed scrutiny after his hair looked different in Infinity War. The viral Reddit post on RDJ’s stash modification received 5.1k upvotes and multiple comments from fans. Most flaunted their sense of humor with tickling sarcasm, while a few criticized and analyzed what went down in that scene.

Here are some of the fans’ reactions:

“Side effect of him trying to shave half of all life in the universe”

“if you throw another mustache at me, I’m gonna lose it”

“No, that’s just Thanos’ aura. His baldness is so intimidating people close by begin rapidly losing hair”

“It’s a small mistake, that was likely a result of reshoots, but I found it to be pretty funny.”

“The scar/wound on his nose is also quite a bit different. Definitely them using either different footage to fill gaps or reshoots where they forgot to dye the mustache darker. You wouldn’t notice it in theater I bet but ye, kinda sloppy for such a big business.”

“Shame it didn’t occur to them to just have Iron Man say the line normally, without an inside-the-helmet shot.”

“Thanos punched Tony’s mustache off. Didn’t know he could do that.”

“Mans probably hit him with the time stone while we weren’t looking”
Likewise, the Thor-Guardians scene in Infinity War, where Thor claimed his age to be 1500 years also appeared to be a plot error as it didn’t conform to the continuity. Hence, Marvel had admitted to their mistake in the book, Marvel Studios’ The Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline.

While Marvel has acknowledged its several continuity errors in many of its films, the studios will probably look into fixing them next year. As per The Direct, 2024 shall only bear one MCU film with Deadpool 3. Meanwhile, fans shall remain vigilant for any more MCU plot errors in the future.
