Resurfaced footage shows Kanye West making bizarre accusations about musician Cardi B.
The rapper has shared a few controversial comments over the last year.
In 2022, he came under fire for spouting antisemitic rhetoric, like saying he would go ‘death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE’ on Twitter, which got him banned off social media.
Following his comments, Adidas was one of many companies to terminate their contract with the musician, saying that they did not ‘tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech’.
West later doubled down on his remarks, saying he was ‘glad he’d crossed a line’ before apologizing and claiming that he said those comments because he knew they were racist.
However, the rapper’s comments about Cardi B supposedly being brought in to replace Nicki Minaj from an unreleased 2018 documentary have surfaced online.
In the video, West, also known as Ye, claims that Cardi B’s rise to fame was not the result of her own talent but was, in fact, ‘orchestrated’ by some mysterious force – namely the Illuminati.
He said: “Cardi B is a plant by the Illuminati. She don’t write her raps. She just there to sound as ignorant as possible and then make songs like, ‘f**k them and get some money.”
The rapper also made the bizarre claim that she had put in place to ‘replace’ Nicki Minaj.
And not only that, but he also claimed that the singer is not even aware of the forces behind her success, saying: “Now she doesn’t know what to do … and she has no idea what is going on.”
Cardi B then seemingly responded by tweeting and then deleting a video of West praising her talents in an interview with Hollywood Unlocked’s Jason Lee.
Ye’s accusations clearly appear to be outlandish, but there are definitions of what an ‘industry plant’ is.
One example was explained in an article in Complex.
The outlet said: “To some, the term applies to artists who are plucked out of obscurity and given a new sound and aesthetic at the direction of their record label, then jammed down the throats of consumers through avenues like playlists and radio.”
There’s also the factor of people knowing someone in the industry, or simply having rich parents so they can attend more auditions or recordings.
It’s very much in the same vein as ‘nepo babies’ – which is a term that a few celebrities have expressed an issue with.
UNILAD has reached out to representatives of Kanye West for comment.
