Veteran actress and MP, Jaya Bachchan got miffed when her husband Amitabh Bachchan’s name was used to address her during a recent Rajya Sabha session.
Jaya Bachchan, who is a famous actress and politician, is known for speaking her mind and heart out without mincing her words. She is one of the first few actresses to have a successful career in politics, and she continues to work in films. Recently, an incident in Parliament left her extremely upset, as she was addressed by her husband’s name. This incident took place in the Rajya Sabha during the ongoing Budget session.
Jaya Bachchan got angry after she was addressed as ‘Amitabh Jaya Bachchan’
For those who don’t know, Samajwadi Party MP, Jaya Bachchan made headlines after she lost her calm after she was called out as ‘Jaya Amitabh Bachchan’ in the Parliament. However, Jaya Bachchan didn’t like the way of being called and reacted to the same. She added that her identity stands independently of her husband’s name.
It happened on July 29, 2024, when Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman, Harivansh Narayan Singh said, “Shrimati Jaya Amitabh Bachchan ji, please…” However, Jaya Bachchan instantly lost her cool and pointed out the way of addressing her. She was quoted as saying:
“Sir, sirf Jaya Bachchan bolte to kaafi hojata..“
Not only this, Jaya Bachchan added that it is a new way of calling out females by their husbands’ names. She further stated that a woman doesn’t have their own identity and they have accomplished nothing. She said:
“Yeh jo hai naya tareeka nikala hai mahilaye apne pati ke naam se jaani jaayegi. Unki koi astitva nahi hai, unki koi uplabadhi nahi hai.”

After this incident, Jaya Bachchan’s nomination form is doing rounds on the social media website X. It features a government stamp dated back to 2018. The document mentions her name as ‘Jaya Amitabh Bachchan’, which was registered by the MP herself. Netizens started calling out Jaya Bachchan’s hypocrisy and how she herself used her husband’s name in the form.
After the nomination form went viral, Kangana Ranaut, who is MP from Mandi, wrote, “Pati ke naam se itna takleef hai toh affidavit mein, “Jaya Amitabh Bachchan’ kyo likha. This is the Affidavit submitted by Smt Jaya Amitabh Bachchan!”
